Sacred Heart Cathedral, Newark

I've never been here, but I was extremely impressed by both the pictures and the website layout for Sacred Heart in Newark, an absolutely splendid Gothic edifice. In some respects, the interior is superior to its contemporary, Saint Pat's in NYC. It appears to be both more innovative and more interesting in its decorative and iconographic sequence--particularly as regards its clever combined side altar and Stations of the Cross setup, which I have seen nowhere else. The high altar--freestanding under a baldachin--is already superior to St. Pat's by virtue of the fact that it is still in use; St. Pat's is abandoned high and dry without much logic, despite being perfectly capable of use for both ad orientem and versus populum masses.
