...You base your selection of cheap red wine for a friendly gathering solely on the fact the head of the winery producing the bottle is rumored to be a member of Opus Dei (dun dun DUUNNN), and indeed, the winery has had a few ludicrous conspiracy theories linked to it.*
*And that you know all this is because the only book you have ever read on wine was written by John Zmirak.
Awesome - where can I find this wine?
ReplyDeleteConcha y Toro, Casillera del Diablo. Chilean. It's exceedingly cheap, which is something of a red flag when it comes to red wine (I have not tried it yet, and am not expecting much), but I needed something to balance out the Santa Margherita pinot grigio I'd gotten already.
ReplyDeleteI have no idea whether the guy who runs the winery is really Opus Dei, or whether the grapes are stomped by benevolent albinos in cowls, but it makes a good story.
Ah, actually, we have gotten Concha y Toro many times before. We found it pretty fair as wines go.
ReplyDeleteOkay. That makes me a little less worried about my guests!
ReplyDeleteThe rumor is true.
ReplyDelete(Dun dun duunnnn! I guess)
As Liz Lemon would put it, "Twist!"
ReplyDeleteBut very cool.
I like Concha y Toro. South American reds tend to be good values. And the Opus Dei thing? Totally awesome.
ReplyDeleteConcha y Toro is a good table wine, and preferable to much of what is out there.
