Saturday Morning Mass (Warning: Song parody ahead)

Each Saturday morning during the school year, the members of this blog, along with others with good alarm clocks, congregate in Alumni Hall Chapel to celebrate 9:00 a.m. Mass. This Mass tends to feature traditional music taken out of the supplement compiled by Notre Dame to add to the music featured in our Gather hymnals; also, the Eucharistic Prayer each week at this Mass is the Roman Canon, a prayer near to my heart (so near that I often talk about naming my kids after the saints in the Canon). I serve as sacristan and server for that Mass, and recently I was inspired to write a song about the Saturday morning Mass experience, set to Billy Joel's Piano Man. Here is that song, which should also help you get to know some of the personalities on this blog better:

Now Andy in the pew is a friend of mine, he lives in a room with me,

but I'm sure that I could contemplate this more, if you would just slow down the pace."

Now Rich is a former Trekkie, who always had time for a life,
and he's kneeling with Matt, who's not wearing his hat, but treating it like it's his wife.
And the lector is practicing reading, with the candlelight setting the tone,
And Emily's praying the Office, thinking of vestments soon to be sewn.

It's a pretty good crowd for a Saturday, and the celebrant gives me a smile,
Though he knows it's not me they've been coming to see, I do cause it to take quite a while.
And the Canon sounds like a litany, though it's something we all love to hear,
Because Linus and Cletus and Sixtus are names that our hearts all hold dear.
